When folk ask the proper way to make biodiesel, they’re regularly taken aback by the simplicity of the process. Biodiesel oil is different from fossil oil that is mined. It can be made of common vegetable oils, animal oils and fats. These are the only sources from which biodiesel can be made of.

In order to make your own biodiesel oil, you need the following :

* A blender or a mini-processor.
* Weighing scale with accuracy of at least 0.1g.
* A thermometer.
* duct tape.
* 4 PET bottles, 2-litre each.
* one litre of unused vegetable oil.
* two hundred ml of pure methanol.
* A half-litre see though white HDPE plastic container with bung and screw-on cap.
* 2 funnels.
* Lye catalyst, either Potassium Hydroxide ( KOH ) or Sodium Hydroxide ( NaOH ). If you’re doing this for the 1st time, better use KOH as it is simpler to use.

Mixing process for making biodiesel at home

Measure 2 hundred ml of methanol and pour this into the HDPE employing a funnel. Close the container lid firmly. Add the lye to the HDPE container using the other funnel, then replace the bung screw the cap. Softly swirl the containing round to get a homogenous mixture. You will notice that the container gets warm, a result of reaction. Let the lye melt absolutely.

Check the whisker to ensure it is clean, dry and it’s seals in good shape. Heat the oil to 55 deg C and add it into the blender, which may still be off. To this, add the mix from the HDPE container. Secure the blender lid and switch it on, letting it run at lower speed for roughly 30 minutes. After this, decant the mixture into a 2-litre PET bottle, screwing the lid tightly then permit to accept 12 hours.

You could have a byproduct at the base of the bottle with a distinct line distinguishing it from a paler liquid above, which is your biodiesel oil. The colour of the byproduct and the biodiesel oil alter, dependent on the kind of oil used. As you can see, making biodiesel at home is not that difficult.
